http://www.emachineshop.com/

i found emachine shop during a recent project. they have a free cad program which is hard to learn but their tutorials helped me alot. but they are fairly cheap. they quoted 20 units for $20 each with about 1 month lead time. the machinist around town are charging $70/hr. and with the hurricane aftermath they've been way to busy to handle my little projects so i'm gunna give em a shot.

I am happy someone found a use for them. I suggested them to someone else, but the quantity was only one. Their price for one of a kind is quite high.

I have recently submitted a design that was rejected. The reason they gave me was that my design was to complex and would be difficult to clamp (To many curves). Now I know that I need to take more care in making my design so that it has some surface area that can be clamped. It's trial and error but I think I got my design where it should be machineable. Cost of one of my design: $160.27 I think this a very reasonable price considering it is a custom design and there is only one part. I could get 100 pc. for $13.24 each, but I only need one.

    >>Edit<< if you need help with using the software, I can help.

I have my papers (license) as a machinist although I'm not currently in the business. If you want, I can screen your designs for you re machinability.

On my first Submarine, we had mechanical Ball resolvers to drive all the gear trains in the Firecontrol system, now everthing is digital/analog and your resolver looks a lot like the one's used now. Sure wish I had an old mechanical one.

Wow Nick, that is very nice. I think I appreciate it the most since I use EMS for a lot of my designs stored in my head. I have yet to use them because of other expenses (day care). Here is a screen shot of the latest design of my bot head I want to have made soon.

    Mike,

I'm new to the forum, and I have yet to get involved with any of the Parallax products (I'm looking to get the Professional development system towards the end of the month). My electronics skills are pretty weak, so I will be quite happy to go through all of the tutorials that I can find.

At any rate, my training is as a ME (years ago), though I have been running my own machine shop for quite a while. I have a Haas VF-3 and 4 axis, and your part wouldn't be all that tough I suspect (I could build an expanding mandrel to hold a blank). If you have a 3D file (solids or surfaces) chances are that I can read it and cut it (aluminum?). I program in GibbsCAM, and design in Concepts Unlimited and Pro/Engineer, so, I figure I can work with just about any file you can come up with.

here's my email, and I would be pleased to give you a hand on this.

and the existing resolver is actually a synchro.

    Hello Nick,

My apologies for being away for so long, I had my mind·glued on a project that I am working on.

Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it a lot!

The rendering of my design was taken from eMachineShop. I used eMachineShop to do 100% of the design. I got that program mastered. smilewinkgrin.gif
