Question about the Parallax PING))) Sensor.

Hello all,

I want to take the Parallax PING sonsor and desolder the ultrasonic devices and then resolder the sensors using soft leads (wire) back to the PING circuit board. The reason for·this modification is the PING device will not fit in my custom design as assembled.

I was told on another forum that the idea would not work well because the sensors output a very weak signal that has to be amplified several times, and by adding wire between the sensors and the circuit board, there will be noise and poor performance. I this true with just 3 or 4" of wire length?

I think you would just have to try it and find out (and void the warranty!). It might help to use shielded, wire from the receiver back to the circuit.

Thanks Tracy,

I know I would void the warranty, but thats ok. I want to get this to work to some degree, it does not have to be dead on, but work well enough so my bot will not run into walls.
