14 or 16 bit ADC and a BS2, anyone?

Hello folks,

I have· a need to measure some analog input at a resolution higher than the 12 bit ADC chips I've been using with BS2.· Anyone used a 16bit A/D chip and your BS2 before?· Which one worked best for you?· This is for a proof of concept QA station for a customer, so long term we'd source a NI Daq card if we got the job, but for·just·rough development·I'd like to use a BS2 and a 16 (or could even use 14) bit ADC.

Regards!

The Linear Tech delta sigma converters (LTC24xx) are very good. It is 24 bits, but you pick off 16 msbs. Other products from Maxim, Analog Devices, and TI.

A lot depends on the input range you require, the number of channels, and not least, your soldering capabilities. A lot of these come in SSOP or DFN packages.

    Hello Tracy,

I have used the LTC1298 for a few projects with good success. I'll look into their 24 bit IC. I only need 2 channels, and need a DIP package (I don't even try SMT stuff anymore, always send it to PCB fab shop to make a carrier if I can't get the part in through hole).

    Many thanks!

The ADS1110 is inexpensive at about $4 but comes in the SOT23-6. Its good to 16 bits. It also has a hardware ID so multiple units can share a common set of I2C lines.
