Multi-color LCD backlight

I'm working on a project with a character LCD module. It would be great for this project if the backlight color could be changed to help indicate the status of the equipment. For example red for an emergency condition. Has anyone seen a display that you can change the backlight color programatically? I have seen the Smartswitches that have an LCD display with a color backlight but they are very small.

    I have yet to see an LCD offered with more than one·backlight color, but this sounds like an excellent idea.· In the case of an LED backlight, seperate LED's of different colors or RGB LED's·could be used to give you various color options, and could quite easily be software controlled.· A great attention getter as well, I would think.

    Ive seen it on a fancy CD player, but Im sure it was a custom design.

    Try EarthLCD ezLCD-001 display.
    You can change up to 256 color both background and text/graphics on the fly.
    It is not too small, ·2.7 in
