Defective Javelin with intermittent fault

I have a Javelin stamp mounted in a custom board for a solar thermal controller. Over the months I've had occasional unexplained failures; if a program is running, it just stops, and occasionally when I tried to download, I'd receive the following error:
IDE-0016: Unable to do line number translation for PC=0.
The problem started to get worse in the last few days. Since it was intermittent, I suspected some cold solder joint in the power wiring, particularly since moving the board around while the program ran made it stop. Tapping the Javelin module gently particularly seemed to provoke the problem. I found and reheated a few suspicious connections, but the problem still occurred intermittently. As I kept searching for it, it became a solid fault: Every attempted download resulted in the above IDE-0016, right after "Resetting Javelin...".
Since the taps that provoked this were extremely gentle, I began to think the problem was in the module itself, a possibility I'd never considered. Fortunately, I had another Javelin module in a Parallax experimenter's board. I swapped the modules, and sure enough, my custom board now works fine, and the experimenter's board does not work at all.
So, what I have is a defective Javelin, which has a previously-intermittent and now-solid failure whenever it tries to run a program. Any suggestions? Can it be repaired?
