hello
I was wondering is it posible to recive X-10 signals through the bs2 WITHOUT
any external objects (eg. firecracker).
thank you.

(though I can build simple circuts)

An external circuit would be required an I would catagorize it to be a medium complexity since you are interfacing with 120V, you will have to do research on the protocol. I remember the original protocol used the zero cross point of the AC mains to optionally insert a tone of a certain frequency, so it is a standard OOK protocol running at 120Hz (if my memory serves me correctly).

Nope, at the very least you'll need a connection to the AC lines (VERY dangerous), and a 'zero crossing' detector, and THEN you'll need something to pull out the X10 pulses off the AC lines.

X10 made two small modules, which plugged in to the wall, to keep the dangerous stuff away from you. I think the TW423 unit would give you a zero crossing signal, and a set of pulses that matched the X10 signals.

The "Home Automation" kit has an RS-232 based messaging protocol "Computer Interface Unit" which should be pretty straightforward to interface to a BS2.

cool thanks I looked in the sm*rt ho*me catalog and they have several less expensive and woud appear to be easer to use than fire cracker or the Z-wave transmitter. but i dont know what the signals to send the rs-232 would be. I tryed several googal serches but found nothing worth while.

    thank you kogerat
the firecracker and the computer x-10 interface from radio shack·uses the same rs232 signals! cool
    thanks again.
