Okay, I admit it. My website needs help.
Unfortunately I don't have an artistic bone in my body.
I'm not looking for anything too fancy and I'd like it be in straight HTML so I can edit it.
I can paypal you or trade for SX video products.
Send me a PM if your interested.

Moderaters feel free to remove this if it is not appropiate...

Bean.

Bean, what kind of webpage are you looking for?

Take a look at my personal webpage and tell me if it looks good (layout and all, not atual graphics or of course content).

    www.knightscrest.com

The reason I ask, is because it's realyl easy to setup, it's running, WordPress, and is a really good system, and of course freeware. :)

I know HTML really well, and I know alot of the newer stuff, php, asp, etc, but I use Wordpress on my own site because it does everything I want, and it's easy to add a new page, or anything else.

    Bean,

I hadn't had much time to make my first post, and now I'm going to elaborate on the WordPress system.

I've seen alot of professional sites that have gone the way of the blogger. In a professional term the "blog" portion can be used for new product announcements, and lots of other types of anouncments, "Special on XX", or "Discontinued product XX in favor of XX", etc.

On my website I use the blog for a generalized blog, but I also have the "pages" section, documenting things that I've done, etc. I intened to have it fully documented with all PCB layout's, schematics, project code, anything else related to the item. Those pages can be added by going to the control panel and making a new page, the new page will format almost exactly like this fourm does, but you can use standard HTML for all of the pages, php can be used, but has it's quirks, since WordPress is PHP.

I'm really familiar with WordPress, and I could whip up a really quick example containg alot of your text from your webpage, so it's a more realistic demonstration, but I think you'll like WordPress. It's what caused me to get off my lazy *** and make my webpage instead of just owning the domain for years and doing nothing with it.

    Where can I get WordPress???

The wordpress.org site seams to be locked up, it displays poorly in Mozilla/FireFox, and correctly in IE, but I cannot get the download of the
current version to go as it erros out every time...

I would like to give it a trial run, and evaluate the software...smilewinkgrin.gif

Real *practical* coders do their hand-crafted HTML in EditPlus so they can quickly check the results -- that's what I do for our help files, anyway. It's nice little tool, and cheap, too -- $30.

    I do too! tongue.gif

BUT, it never hurts to see what there is out there, besides it could be a learning experiance! smilewinkgrin.gif

I know HTML, but not much of the other helper languages (PHP, ASP, ect) shakehead.gif

I personally use NoteTab for my coding, as it has a lot of user configurable features... yeah.gif

Actually I have to admit, I've been to the dark side a few times and used WORD for generating HTML (ashamed) :)

Oh yeah, we use a hex keypad to make all of this happen. It's a real improvement on the reels and reels of punch tape we used to use. :)

On a more serious note, unless you're worried about HTML file sizes and rendering HTML to a dial-up client with a bad phone line, use a editor that provides a rich GUI to paint your pages. That allows you to focus on what you want to present instead of how to make it work. Sure, the tools cost a little more, but you time is worth somthing too.

I agree, it is so much easier to design web pages using a GUI program. I have used the more expensive GUI program called Dream Weaver.

Something like dreamweaver? It allows one to see the code and see it graphically and design it either way. Its also a program that seems to be newbie friendly. But it is not cheap. I think macromedia has a demo available. You can design in just HTML, and it has ALOT of extra plugins and support base for some pretty complicated stuff. Supports java, php, etc...

Unless somebody needs Dreamweaver ASAP for a specific project, you might want to wait before buying. When Adobe completes their acquisition of Macromedia, they will probably offer it at promotional prices.

WordPress can be obtained by wordpress.org

I went there just now in FireFox, and havn't had any issues with it displaying correctly.

    For the zip's and tars:

    http://wordpress.org/latest.zip
    http://wordpress.org/latest.tar.gz

And to all the naysayers, I've used text editors for standard HTML production, in fact my first webpages were made with the Dos 6.22 editor. I know my HTML, HOWEVER, WordPress makes it EASY to do without having to remember, oh yeah, I need to edit the "navigation" bar to add my new page, oh damn, what do I call the new page, did I call it "test.html" or "tesT.html", which of course matters to a Linux machine, which is what is hosting my webpage (To the right of my knee, as a matter of fact).

I run my own webpage server, you can't tell me that I don't know HTML, Perl, PHP, ASP, etc, etc. I just don't NEED to do something like that right now, and with WordPress it's giving me the option of QUICKLY producing a really good quality webpage... If I was designing a webpage for my cellphone, (very little graphics all text) I wouldn't use WordPress, I'd use notepad, obviously.

BTW, Bob, you say you'd like to try the evaluation..... the entire program is freeware, no payment needed...ANYWHERE, at ANYTIME... however, donations are always encouraged. ;)

And before I found WordPress, I used to use HomeSite. It allows instant viewing of the webpage being coded through both FireFox and IE.

Hmmmm, well I managed to get it, it still doesn't come up on Mozilla, it takes forever..... Ditto FireFox, only in IE did it come up as a normal speed
pageload.... Hmmmm confused.gif And only by having dap dl it could I get the full zip file, the file-save-as hung up. roll.gif

I did notice it used NON-STANDARD file naming for the saved file, it was " wordpress-1leftbracket1rightbracketleftbracket1rightbracket.5.2.zip "nono.gif,
    which should be "wordpress-1.5.2.zip"..... yeah.gif

The left/rightbrackets are the squared keys between the "p key" and "enter key" that are used in html coding on this site..

I do not have time to set it up on a Win2k machine to give it a look.... As I will be gone for 2 weeks.... jumpin.gif

For coding of Web pages, I first used Frontpage, it was code-bloated, but user friendly...
I then had some classes that taught HTML, so now I hard code it, I do have TopStyle Pro, but haven't got into it much.... wink.gif
NoteTab also has hotkeys to IE or Mozilla/FireFox for instant viewing of pages....

Eventually I would like to have a low power machine just for a web site, with minimal ftp. turn.gif
