iPod + basic stamp

I came across the pin-outs for an ipod the other day. I noticed that the ipod actually has a serial connection on the dock connector along with the firewire ports. I'd always assumed that the control was being performed via the firewire somehow. But, turns out, that the integration with like the BMW cars is done through the serial protocols.

Here's some links on this:

One thing to realize is that you can connect to the serial port via the dock, but also via the headphone connector at top. On the bottom, though, you get audio-out as well. The other important feature is that you can get the information regarding the currently-playing song as well.

I was contemplating what it'd take to hook a stamp up to an ipod. So i could, say, connect to it via the new internet connector, and control my ipod through there. I think this is mostly above my capabilities at the moment. I'm learning, but, I'd rather not toast my ipod somehow.

Has anyone looked into this before?

I'm thinking about doing it with my iPod, but haven't had the time to make a connector. The more likely thing I'll do is build an SX interface so that the SX can handle the nitty-gritty stuff and the Stamp can just ask the SX to do it.

This is an excellent idea- I would hook my iPod to the internet for control if I infact had an iPod :)

I really like this idea, I believe it would be very useful for audio playback (dialogue & etc.) in response to user inputs (ie AppMod sound·module).··I believe minis·and the nanos have·the greatest potential.· I'm exceptionally new to this hobby but I'd love to learn more about this specific application.

    Respectfully,
