gp2d12 sensor with basic stamp

hi, i was just wondering why i need an ADC0831 analog to digital converter when using these sensors when the basic stamp 2 has a built-in analog to digital converter?

    The BS2, nor any other Stamp, does not have a built-in A to D converter.

    but i read in the manual that u can use the pulsin command for the purpose of analog to digital conversion so could u please elaborate? Thanks.
