Networking the Javelin Stamp

·I'm new to the javeling stamp and i think it is an amazing gadget. However, i am wondering if it is possible to connect a number of the javelin stamps over a wide area network and control them from a remote position. If this is possible, can anyone give me any hints on how to go about it.

Thanks.

    That is quite possible.

The best way would be to use RS485 (for example with MAX487 driver chip) in a half duplex

fashion, so each node can send/receive directly to/from any other node. For cabling I would suggest

UTP cable using 2 pairs of wire for A, B datasignals and 5V,GND for power.

Using RS485 allows distances up to 1000 feet and you can use Uart VP's, the only

way to implement a slave device on the javelin (a slave device·always listens for incoming messages,

    even while performing other tasks).

Thank Peter...I appreciate your quick reply.

The thing though is that i have not heard of the RS485.

Is this a wirless wide area networking tool?

·Is there a website u can recommend that i research more on this device?

And i'm thinking of doing disatances of about 3km.

    Thank you.

Go here for introduction to RS485.

    http://www.rs485.com/rs485spec.html

For distances up to 3km wireless appears the best way.

But for that kind of distances you need powerful

    transmitters (and licensed I suppose).

No easy access to internet·at the node's locations?

Parallax introduces next week an internet kit to connect

basic stamps (and javelin I suppose)· to the internet.

    regards peter
