Using the Ping))) in noisey environment for musical instrument

Hi,
I am interested in using the Ping))) with a musical instrument (midi controller) where it would be used with the BS2 to create midi note messages.
Would it experience "destructive interference" if used when other sounds are being produced, and would it be fast and accurate enough to measure the distance of a moving hand?
Thanks for any info, it's appreciated.

Easy answer : since the environement does not emit in the same band as the ping does (around 40KHZ I beleive) ther should be no risk.

· More important is the surfaces you want to detect...Soft surfaces (Like people) don't reflect as well as hard objects (Such as walls and poles).

Yeah, the light interference thing with IR = no good.
I think I'll have to experiment with it.
Thanks again,
