Is PDB missing some pinheaders?

Hi everybody,

Recently i have ordered and received the Professional Development Board. And, it is what it says, a Professional looking board. My compliments to the developers of this board. I have just started working with it, and i noticed something.

My question:
If you look at the attached image of the PDB, then you can see, right above the sockets where you put the stamp(s), that a double row of connctions have been left open. For what i can see right now, i think these are to be used with the·BS2P40.

Is there any particular reason to leave these open? I reccon, that there should be black pinheaders installed on that spot, to be able to connect with the breadboard. I'm very open minded and i could be wrong on this, so if anybody could fill me in on this, i would greatly appreciate it.

Best regards,

Ed.

No, it is not missing any headers. Those points are to allow advanced developers to make their own connections (to devices like logic analyzers).

    Ok Jon, that makes sense,

Thanks for the quick reply. Maybe you can help me with this one too. On page 4 of the PDB document it is stated that one should use 24-gauge wires for connecting various parts of the breadboard.

When i take 0,5mm wires, about the same thickness as with components like resistors, the breadboard takes the wires quite nicely (rather firm grip), wereas the above mentioned black pinheaders seem much looser and would require maybe 0,8mm. I am not familiar with the term "24-gauge" rolleyes.gif (Europe), so my two questions here:

Is it correct that the black Pinheaders seem more loose than the breadboard? And what size of wire (in mm) is advised to be used with the PDB? I do NOT want to "overstress" the contacts in the breadboard, by jamming in (too) thick wiring.shakehead.gif

    Thanks,

    Ed.

Well, that's actually supposed to say 22-gauge which fits into the breadboard quite firmly and nicely into the black box-header sockets.· I don't think there's a direct "standard" metric equivalent; the measurement is 0.32 mm2.

    Thanks! idea.gif

0.32 mm2 shouldhave a diameter of about 0,64mm (calculated). I took a male pinheader wich seems to fit exactly into the female pinheader and measured the thickness of one pin. 0,65mm! smilewinkgrin.gif

Why didn't i think of this, a bit sooner? blush.gif

    Thanks Jon,

    Ed.

Might come in handy for others too? wink.gif

I sometimes get taken to task for it, but one of my favorite quips is, "Like Parallax, Google is your friend...."
