USB to serial adaptors: what works and what doesn't...

Hi Gang:

Here are two datapoints for the "what USB to serial·adaptors work?" discussion. I tried a Belkin USB\Serial adaptor from Staples this weekend to try to get my homework board working. Definitely did NOT work. I returned it and bought a Radio Shack USB to Serial adaptor (6 ft). This seems to work just fine. I find it ironic that the Belkin adaptor was "Windows XP compliant" and the Radio Shack adaptor was not compliant (brought up the usual Microsoft scare-tactic warnings). Go figure ;-). Anyway, hope this helps.

Some "compliant" adapters don't pass all the signals -- they probably work just fine with PDAs, but the BASIC Stamp needs to the DTR line connected so that the editor can reset the Stamp for reprogramming.
