Wish List Life Span

I have noticed that items put in my "Wish List" don't last very long.

Is there a lifespan on these items.

I haven't purchased yet, but will be.· Once I've purchased, does the life span of the wish list increase?

I'll take "Huh?" to mean you don't understand my question, or are not aware of the situation, or that for some reason, I'm the exception.

Basically, I've added (on more than one occasion) items to my "wish list" (on the Paralax site), and after a period of time (1 or two weeks, I haven't tracked it), the wish list becomes empty.

I've used the same e-mail address to log in each time, etc.

It's not a big deal, but I'd rather clog your system with my dreams than my own. It also makes things nice when I do purchase to just go to my list and press the "add to cart" button.

It (the wish list) also helps get me back to the catalog page where I found the treasure, and link up with all the online documentation and samle stuff. (Very nice to have all that available.)

Maybe the "wish list" only works for movie stars with their own web site????

BTW: My wife says you should be getting more parts, and would have made a good Bond.

You're right, I didn't understand -- the support forums and the web site don't run on the same software and aren't interconnected (other than being owned/managed by Parallax). I'll send a note to our web development group (that handles the main site) and ask them to respond. Sorry for my confusion.

    Thanks for the help.

I knew they were separate sited, but thought this would be a good place to start.

Sorry I didn't make things clearer the first time.

    Have a great weekend!

I enjoy the part of this forum topic where the Wish List is made to seem like an experience gaining device, so that the more often you buy the more levels you gain for the Wish List.

I have a level 12 Wish List with a +3 Vorpal sword to Gift Item slaying; however I'm just a game nerd and often make these correlations with everyday items and happenings... but I digress.

I know of this Wish List of which you speak, as I have a slight control over it.· I was unaware however·of a timeout or similar function where items from the wish list would be lost for no good reason.· So no lifespan that I know of, but I can use my web powers to dive into this matter and figure this out as we (The Web-Side of Parallaxia) were about to explore the wish list and gift items section of Parallax for the Holiday season that is rapidly approaching.

I'm going to go jump into the software and see if I can't figure this out,
    YAR!

Interns looking at code make me nervous. The Wish list has a 2 week retention time.

Oh Jim!· I was looking at the UI for the Wishlist area not the code itself, that is all sitting pretty on the site.· I don't think* this has anything to do with the representation of the wish list as it appears to the clients, which seems to be·what the storefront files hold dominion over.

This reminds me of that Chrysler commercial with Lee and Snoop Dogg. I don't know what he just said, but the list is purged several times throughout the day - every day. There is nothing in the UI that can change that.

Yep, it seems as if all I can do is turn the wishlist on or off; it's all you.

    Hey Jim;

I've seen two responses that could be in conflict. One says 2 week retention, the other says purged serveral time a day, every day. Does this mean that the lists are purged several times a day, and cull out anything older than 336 hours (or something like that)?

I can certainly understand the reasoning behind this, but now I guess I'll have to clog my own system with this stuff smile.gif

As an IT manager myself, I kind of like having interns looking at code. It can take some of the boredom away... (no offense meant Bumpy Truck)

    Have a good weekend.

There is no conflict in what I wrote. The retention time is two weeks. The site looks at the wish list several times a day and purges anything over 14 days old. The retention time can be changed in a matter of seconds.

As for the intern thing, looking is great as long as the urge to touch is resisted. Broken rules lead to broken fingers.

Enjoy your weekend too. Mine starts right now.

    Jim;

I didn't mean that the way it sounded. I was just trying to clarify (which you have done) what the scoop was.

In the "for what it's worth" column, 2 weeks isn't much time for a wish to materialize.

Two weeks is a very short time for a wish to cycle into reality. The marketing types around here are charged with reality management. Perhaps they can be convinced to extend the wish list time.

If your marketing guys are single, they won't understand.

(sorry for dragging this out even more, but I couldn't resist.)

    Jim,

Sorry to dredge this thread back to life, but....

Is the 2 week life from initial item added or does the 2 weeks reset if you add another item to your wish list at a later time? Or... is the life span a FIFO based on each item and the oldest item vaporizes after 2 weeks.... that would be a bummer.

Based on my experience, it's kind of FIFO: Each item vaporizes after its 14 day life span expires. Obviously the marketing folks and other decision makers are not married, nor do they daydream much smile.gif

I gave up, and just made a folder in my book mark list.

Alas, the wish list is a FIFO mechanism. I have asked to extend the retention time from two weeks to three months. Let's see if they go for it.
