Low cost bluetooth?

Anyone have any links to a low cost bluetooth module that will communicate at 9600 bps? I have a hard time justifying $65 to $99 for a bluetooth module with a serial interface when I see a lot of USB to bluetooth modules selling for $15-$25. This is for a home brew project - a wireless iTunes controller with a serial LCD that communicates over bluetooth.

Diablodemorte,
Have you connected a serial LCD, FTDI USB to UART and a USB bluetooth adapter REMOTELY and gotten it to work?

Forrest,
I suspect that you need more than just hardware. Diabldemorte is looking at just the transciever without the computer's software support.
I have a Palm Zire 72 and the Bluetooth configuration into MicrosoftXP with SP2 is quite a task. I haven't fully figured it out.
(One thing that Palm strongly suggest is to NOT use Microsoft drivers as they are too secure, too limiting).

You might try

www.ucpros.com

for a complete Bluetooth microcontroller with an RS-232 port. They seem to be both competent and reasonable.

Kramer,
I looked over that website and didn't see anything specifically listed as Bluetooth to RS232 - a search just brought up books on the subject.

Sorry, I was wrong. I saw one PIC board listed under their Bluetooth that I though might have a Bluetooth interface with some kind of BIOs for it. I guess it is a listing error.

I do remember someone somewhere complaining the Bluetooth wanted a huge annual fee for development support.

I took a look at the Bluetooth site and they have Bluetooth Stereo in their future. My Palm has Bluetooth and I was thinking that it would be nice to use it as an ultimate wireless interface with Stamp projects [There is a Palm C like software for $18USD that I could create menus and interface in]

Nonetheless, they really are not receptive to hobbyist and hackers [for obvious profit motive]. Businesses hate the generic user.

I suppose that I should buy one of those books to really get my Bluetooth up and running. My transciever is supposed to be good for 600 feet. So I can walk the dog and read email or drink coffee around the corner while using the web.

After some research on Bluetooth - I think this project simply doesn't make sense from a practical or technical point of view.

If you want a good Bluetooth controller for iTunes (or Power Point, Keynote, etc) then you want the Salling Clicker at www.salling.com/
The Salling clicker runs on OSX and the new version just announced today also runs on Windows XP. It supports 90 Bluetooth and Wifi controllers (phones and PDA's) and costs $23.95.
