I see the forums are back up, and posts are missing, I take it the server crashed and a backup copy had to be installed?

We lost the database server at lunchtime today. We recovered from overnight backups. Right now we are running on a reserve machine. The original server should be back in action sometime next week.

P.S. This is what this part of the alphabet would look like if "Q" and "R" were eliminated.

Now that made me laugh! (No offense Jon, really.)

It's just that you (Jon) seem to have a well qualified and insightful answer to most questions posted regardless of topic. Almost every where...

Doggiedoc, Jsjga is referring to the Jon Williams impersonator in this thread, who used the name 'Jon Williams [Parallax]' instead of the authentic 'Jon Williams (Parallax)', he even ripped the real Jon's avatar. They changed is password and made his real email address availible for anyone who wanted to harrass him for his uncool behavior, Jsjga was supposing the impersonator caused the server to crash though none of us think he is an elite HaXoR (sorry my hacker speak is gravely lacking).

The server failure was caused by faulty hardware. The hardware will be replaced on Monday and we'll go on. This failure was not caused by a rouge individual.

Now, where is that weekend I was looking forward to? :)

    Paul -
How did I miss that thread!!!? I totally understand now. What a dweeb.

    Jim -
We (and I am sure I speak for everyone) really appreciate your hard work. IT can suck sometimes, I know; I am my own IT Guy - [sarcasm] owning a Veterinary Hospital has its rewards [/sarcasm].

Hi Doc. I'm sure that you can appreciate it when I say that a good day in IT is when no one notices that you exist. When is the last time anyone called the phone company to congratulate them on the up-time on their telephone service? I rest my case. At least I know that our recovery strategy works pretty well.

I can appreciate the Vet hospital gig. Watching animals get back to health is awesome. Providing technology for that operation must be a real challenge.

well, back to college feet ball. It'll hold me over until the NBA gets going.
