The Stamp Editor does not recognize a Stamp until you down load a program.· Is that what you are trying to - download a program?

The is an "ID" icon in the Editor toll bar.· If you have your Stamp connected via serial cable and it is on, click on the ID icon and see what the screen tells you.· Under Edit/Preferences/Editor Operation make sure the Default Com Port is set to AUTO.

What does the screen say when you click on the ID icon?

Is the power "on" on the stamp itself?· I think I've gotten that message before and that was my problem.

P.S. This is what this part of the alphabet would look like if "Q" and "R" were eliminated.

You might want to check the battery if it uses one. I thought I fried my basic stamp because it would not recognize the stamp as you have explained. even weirder was the battery seemed to have power but apparently not enough to make things work. I replaced the 9-volt battery and wala, everything work perfectly.
