Hello all,
I’m interested to design an electronic circuit to measure the RPM of a rotating disk. The RPM range is between 200 to 1200. Also I want the device use a sensor that is not depends on the lights (magnetic sensor would be great). ·I’m very new to electronic and been programming for many years. Do you guys know of any easy circuit to do something like this?
Also I was looking to use basic stamp II, is that over killed for this project?
Thanks
Borna

    Hello,

·· A circuit similar to what you describe can be found here at the following link.· Is it just me, or does everyone see the text going off the right side with no scroll-bars to see it?

Typically that happens when someone pastes a long line, but usually there are scroll bars at the bottom when that happens to allow you to view the text.· This is somewhat unique.· Anyway I will pass it on to our IT Dept.· Thanks for the feedback.

    Oooops.....

Back to the question in the OP. It sounds like you need a hall effect sensor (magnetic). I did a quick Google on that topic, here are the results of that search.

Another method could include infrared emitter/detector (light).

There are more knowledgeable people around here on those topics.

    Borna -

Allegro MicroSystems [ http://www.allegromicro.com/ ] has a number of Hall Effect sensors that might work for your application. They also seem to have a rather liberal policy on free samples.
