Just wondering, have you guys ever thought of having a version of the BOE or NX1000 that has a ziff socket?
That way those of us planning to build product based on Stamps can do a quick change of processors without worrying about bending pins when programming a batch of them.

You can buy a ZIF socket from Digikey that plugs into the Stamp Socket.

ZIF sockets are not cheap, and we are constantly hounded to lower our prices. Sid has a good solution for those of us who change chips frequently.

That's a great idea! I have bent a pin or two and I am very careful. I ordered a couple for my ATMEL programmer I built but it never occured to me to use them on my Parallax boards.

Would this one work? If so, I'll order a few more and try them on a BOE or two.

    Cheers,
    Doc

    Doc,

·· That sure will work.· In fact I think I have a few of that exact ZIF Socket floating around my parts bins.

A Textool 228-1371-00 would do the job.

The pins on the Zif that I bought were too short.
In order to use it, I had to solder it to a board that I used to support 24 longer pins.

You need a board that will allow you to solder from both sides. A single sided proto-type board will not work.

If the pins are too short, you can plug it into a 24-pin .600 machine collet DIP socket, then plug it into the Stamp socket.· I've done that many times.
