How much data, at what rate, at what interval, many options.

A single 1 wire transmission coud work but I don't know if your stamps all have clocks, if not 2 wire with a clock signal generated by the receiver could signal each stamp to send its data.

Checkout Jan Axelson's book: Serial Port Complete -- it goes into all the details. Also, I think you'll find an article or two by Lon Glazner in our Nuts & Volts library (see the Downloads section at www.parallax.com).

You'll need a '485 transciever chip to create a bus line.

Then, you'll need some way to insure only one device 'talks' at a time -- typically some kind of round-robin Ask-Response cycle, or some kind of 'token' passing approach.

Google for RS485 protocols, and check out a few of the application notes.
