Uploading programs?

I have a few older boards using the SX family that are no longer supported by the manufacturer. I need to have the ability to keep these things running for the forseeable future.

Is there any way to upload the programs from these chips using the SX-Key? I am, obviously, totally new to this, so any help is greatly appreciated.

You can IF the program is not protected. If it's not protected you can use the READ button from the device dialog box.
Of course you will NOT get the source code, but a hex file that you can burn into another device.

If you can obtain the HEX file, there are some disassemblers out there to make sense of the HEX file. There is Angelica and a pic disassembler modified to work with the SX availible here.

If it is code protected, there are methods of obtaining the code, however they are destructive (chip is inoperable afterwards, also you run the risk of destroying the chip without obtaining the code if the company or individual doesn't fully know what they are doing) but since Parallax frowns upon advertising·this service on the forums, I leave it to you to hunt down a company that offers the service.
