Hi everyone. Does anyone know or have any tutorials on using the stamp with a modem. The parallax site offers a modem kit, but is now discontinued. I could use a really good informational document. Thank you

Before working for Parallax I used a Cermetek modem in an application and found them not particularly easy to deal with.· But, if you want to give it a go, this article (about 5 years old) may help: http://www.parallax.com/dl/docs/cols/nv/vol2/col/nv60.pdf

    Hybrid,

Attached is our documentation for the discontinued StampModem. You can still build this circuit on a breadboard (or the Professional Development Board) and run our code as an example.

I've been able to use a regular external USR14.4 modem with my stamp.·
To be honest, I only bench tested it...but was able to dial out without a problem -- I was looking for a remote data acq system that would dial out and dump it's data to a central database....so it was a bench test in that respect.

All I did was hack apart a modem cable and wire to the stamp.

I honestly don't remember where I left off....but I think I had borrowed from the Cermeteck code and modified it here and there....didn't clean it ALL up!

I actually don't remember which one I finished on....but I'm thinking its the long file named one (as I've included more remarks in the code).

The our Cermetek CH1786A docs were recently updated here:

Also note the new lower price.

    Hi Ryan,

Are your sure about that 14.4 and caller ID business? I think those capabilities apply to the CH1788, but not the CH1786A. It looks to me from the data sheet that the CH1786A is still 2400 baud max, and the differences with the older model are minor enhancements in the handshake options and changes in the default settings.

I bought a pile of surplus Macintosh Teleport modems at less than $1 each, that were designed to operate with 5 volt power and 5 volt data levels. It was a pretty easy matter to hook those up to the Stamp. I still see them around on surplus.

We support the chip as it's rated per their documentation.

Here is a picture of it running on our PDB.
