Hehe, I took advantage of the Hurricane Katrina offer and bought an SX Tech Tool Kit PRO just to get the PDB, I had no idea what an SX was, it just looked like a good deal. I guess I'll have to learn about the SX now.

For many people this stuff is just fun, I know thats all it is for me. I'll never make anything that will sell, I just like piddling around with these things, it keeps your brain working. That's what hobbies are for.

I hope you have fun with all your new goodies, those should keep you busy a while :)

I'm going to side with Bean.... I get that dirty smirk look when I'm up "late" at night in the newsgroup. Now since
I work at Parallax, she follows the smirk with ... "is that work related" ? Arghhh!! No dear, "just playing" smilewinkgrin.gif

Keep in mind we just had a baby girl (Gabrielle) just over a month ago, and she still has her days/nights mixed up, so
our own schedules have been knocked out of whack.

BTW)

doggiedoc,

Great for you!!!! I didn't see an RFID reader on your list....
...I wonder if the RFID reader would work with a "chipped" animal?

Bean.

Really, Bean - I swear it is on my wish-list now. I've got enough to keep me busy at night for a bit.

I didn't really clear it with the wife first. So......

I'm a big boy; I'll just take my lumps!

Us too! Sara Elizabeth was born 7/15/2005 2:14 am!! She was 10 lbs and 1.5 ozs and 22" long. The good news is she sleeps throught the night just fine. It's the 2 year old that keeps us up!

I've already had that thought. I haven't thought of a way to apply it practically even if I get it to work. But it would be nice if I could link the BS2 to my database and pull up the patient file automatically based on microchip scans...

This sounds like a Visual Basic application.

1) BS2 reads RFID code
2) BS2 sends data to PC
3) VB program running in background (minimized), monitoring the serial port and invokes application (if not already running).
4) The same VB program "stuffs" the keyboard with proper keystrokes to bring up the correct patient file.

Note: ...Stuffing the keyboard... I have done this with QuickBasic (not VB yet), but there are plenty of 3rd party KB stuffers that VB could launch.

My database is a custom app I suspect was written in VB, but I doubt I can get to the source code, even though I "know" the guys. It also is served up with acuCobol on SCO Unix Open Server. I don't think I could make it work.

Btw - the pingpong effect was cool!

No need to know the source code, VB can launch an external application and send key strokes!!!

I reduced the size of the previous "Sendkeys" example code I had....

How about seeing the Windows calculator as a seconds counter?

ehh, I know it's lame but it's just an example.

The idea is that you could modify the "SendKeys" command to "drive" your current application to load the correct
patient file.

Hmmm... that has possibilities! I have my head buried in a different problem right now, but I will focus on that snippet of code soon.

As for the other problem....it pertains to my new BS2px's that came in today.... I am trying to figure it out. If I can't get it, I'll start a new thread.
