Anti-Spam Filter

Many times I get a screen message

Anti-Spam Filter Enabled
The Forum Administrator has set a minimum of 20 seconds between postings.

But I invariably have to wait 5 or 6 minutes before I can post again.

    Sid,

·· If you look two threads down this has been mentioned before (The Anti-Spam filter), although nobody has ever reported having to wait that long.· Are you editing messages during this time?

Some days I have a big problem with this thing....

I've had to log off and back on to get it to work....but invariably I have to jump to other forum sections and read other messages before I can come back and repost my message.

I'm in the boat too. I regularly have to wait in excess of 4 minutes (240 seconds) to post replies in different threads, despite the 20 second notice. I suspect that someone missed a line in the BB code somewhere...

Same here. One solution that seems to work (most of the time) is to open a new tab in FireFox and go to the forum through it. You still need to let some time pass, but it often (not always) helps when the anti-spam filter kicks in.

The upgrade went well, so let's get this issue resolved. The antspam timer was set to 20 seconds, as it should be. I could not find anything that might cause this delay. I have restarted the forum application. Let's see if that changes the behavior. I am monitoring this thread for updates now. Please let me know if you still see the problem.

    Thanks.

Jim, is the timer being reset after subsequent activations of the filter? This could account for the extended time period.

The timer isn't really a timer at all. The system looks at the time stamp of your last post and compares it with the anti-span delay, currently set to 30 seconds. If you haven't posted in the last 30 seconds, it should allow the post to continue.

When I reset the application yesterday, it should have picked up the new 30 second delay value. It caches a lot of system information, so restarting is an effective way to have it retreive new settings from the database. Anyone that was on-line during the restart would still see the old values until they closed their browser or 10 minutes of time had elapsed. All new browser sessions connect to the restarted copy of the application.

It's going to be something simple, but I haven't found it yet. I'm still digging.

Thanks, Sid. I have a copy of the system running off-line for testing at the moment - and it's isn't exhibiting the problem. It's a good thing I'm already loosing my hair. There isn't going to be much left after this incident.

    Jim-

I'm still seeing it, but with a listed delay of 0 seconds(?). For practical purposes it's still bouncing me for 4-5 minutes. I browse in Firefox and Safari with lots of tabs, and unfortunately PeterM's solution doesn't seem to apply to me. I wonder if this has something to do with timezones? I'm grasping at straws here, I know.

    Good luck.

    Dave,

I turned the delay down to zero seconds in a vain attempt to turn off the feature. I guess that didn't work. I'll keep working the issue in the morning. My brain is mush at the moment.

I just reset the web services that hosts this site. I don't think it's going to fix the problem, but it was worth a shot.

Just a quick post-crash note. The Anti-spam timer issue was resolved this morning (about 30 minutes before the system died). Details later after I bring up the other databases...
