Development Idea for Hire

I am looking for some help and or direction. I have no electronic background and wish to hire someone to build what I need.· I'm looking for a video overlay device that can generate a timecode to the 1000th of a second and be triggered by sound (the start of a starting gun).· I have been told to talk with people familair with microcontrollers in order to figure out how to start a video overlay device by sound.· I would like this device to be an all in one device eventually.

I am a track coach who has developed software that·can be used to run a track·meet. ·As of now, I use a small tubular (scope) device that is aimed from the press box at the starting gun - it picks up the flash of the gun and immediately starts a time code that overlays it the time on the screen.· As the runners cross the finish line, the operator records their time by refering to the overlayed information - which advances in slow motion at 60fp (deinterlaced). I want to replace this device and instead create something that can be triggered by the sound of the gun - thus no longer needed someone in the press box pointing the scope at the starting gun. I invision this: The Starter would have a microphone device that would run via a cable into an overlay device at the finish line.· This device would then join the cable (three way cable) that sends the video picture to the press box.· The finish line video would them have the time (clock) overlayed on the screen.· All this would make the start of the race automatic and not involve someone holding and pointing the current device I use.· to have such a device would help make my software more marketable and easy to use.· Once built and tested successfully, I would sell the new device with the software.· This is a chance to make something that has·market potential and be paid on a per unit bases.· I have attached a couple of pictures that summarize the system I use now and what I'm looking for.· I can email them to you if it helps.· Thank you.

If you care about milliseconds then put the microphone close to the gun, since the speed of sound is around a foot per millisecond.

That means the furthest runner from the gun is actually at a slight disadvantage!

    Steve,
I am just now in the middle of producing a low cost video overlay board using a microntroller.
I have been contacted by several people about "non-standard" uses.
Making a 1/60 of a second "frame counter" on screen is no problem. Triggering is not a problem, if there is a mic at the gun.

    I have a couple questions:
What is the PC for ? Just as a video recording device ?
What good is timing 1/1000 seconds if the video is only 1/60 of a second ?

You can contact me at terry@hittconsulting.com

You could probably save yourself a heap of trouble by activating the system with a switch on the gun, rather than by sound. Maybe a nice little wireless unit that can be just fastened on the grip, with the switch behind the trigger. Or just wired to the controller with the cable.
