Hydraulics

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with robotic hydraulic applications?·

The final goal would be to use some sort of hydraulic stepping motors for somewhat precise hydraulic movements.

Hydraulics in mind would be something like clippard's minimatic cylinders.· (www.clippard.com).

Any info would be greatly apprciated!

Thanks!
Chad.

    Neat!

Clippard looks like 'pneumatic' more than 'hydraulic', though. Which is a good thing -- air pressure (pneumatic) should be more forgiving than pressurized liquid (hydraulic). There was a pneumatic module for the Lego Mindstorms robots last year -- I don't know if it is still supported.

I actually have no preference with pneumatics or hydraulics.· I'm looking for the increased force of them, versus a servo.· Any pneumatic suggestions would be more than welcome as well.

    Chad -

I've often considered the use of pneumatics in a robotic platform, if for no other reason than to try and experiment with this type of air bladder "muscle":

Who could resist a fiesty robot strutting around saying "Feel my biceps!" smile.gif

Here is a surplus resource for pneumatic air cylinders:

They additionally offer a 7 valve assembly air manifold with 24 VDC actuator solenoids which is something I'd not seen surplus before:

If you search that H & R web site for "Numatics" (the name of the manufactuer of these surplus parts, you will find a number of other items as well. Here is the Numatics web site as well: http://www.numatics.com/ .

Please keep us abreast of how you're progressing with this project.

    Regards,

Ive wanted to build a lightweight quadraped robot with a compressor hooked in reverse, 4 port manifold·connected to·suction cups on each leg. IE a robot capable of walking on walls, perhaps even ceilings, but finding pneumatic parts the appropriate weight and size is·quite a tall order and I dont have a machine shop so Im stuck in the "cool idea, no way to implement" stage.
