Skewed SX Chips Pricing

I think it's time to reduce prices for the SMT SX chips.

Currently the SX18DP and SX28DP are the lowest priced chips, and it doesn't make sense that DIP chips should
cost less than the SMT chips.

Parallax should do something about this, b'cos the current pricing structure doesn't encourage
volume manufacturers that has to use SMT to include SX chips in their designs.

    Hello William,

We realize the price should decrease. Some changes in Parallax's role in regards to the SX should enable this to happen very soon. More on that to follow in its own thread that I'll launch this afternoon.

But in response to your point about the cost difference, the SMT chips are indeed less expensive than the DIP chips. The SX18AC/DP is no longer available, so the final quantities were discounted to clear our inventory. It can't be used in a cost comparison, but comparing the SX28AC/SS to the SX28AC/DP shows that the SMT chips are less expensive.

Whatever the details about those two. . . I understand your main point that these are expensive and Parallax will respond accordingly.

    Dear Ken,

I think you forgot about the "Rail Sale" for the SX28AC/DP. This makes it cheaper than the SX28AC/SS.
How about a "Rail Sale" for the SMT chips as well?

My company's management has been comparing the SX20AC/SS prices with TI's MSP430F2xx chips for the next version of our car immobiliser product
and it's hard to justify the current SX prices.....
