Hello all. I am working on replacing a rotary position switch with an arrow·having a magnet on it's shaft, and a series of hall effect sensors to determine the arrows position (where it's pointing). I prototyped with hall effect sensors from Allegro, and when the magnet was in front of the sensor I got IN0 = 1, and when it was away IN0 = 0. I just got a big box of the Melexis 90217 hall effect sensors from parallax, and when I put them in when the magnet is away from the sensor it reads IN0 = 1, and when the magnet is in front of the sensor it read high and low sporadically, e.i.: 000111000110001001001111000.....
anyone know whats up with that? I've got the sensors cofigured just like the schematics for the mill machine speed reading schematic indicates, so I have no idea why the results would be so different.

Perhaps the magnet is on the wrong plane in relation to the Hall Effect sensor?· I think the datasheet explains the orientation of the field to the sensor.
