SX/B Index and Cross Reference

Mr. Newton (of SXList.com fame) and Mr. Gracey (of Parallax),

1) Do either of you know of the existance of·an index available for Al Williams "Exploring the SX Microcontroller with Assembly & BASIC Programming" (alphabetical list of keywords and topic with page numbers) that can be printed and appended to the end of Al Williams book.

2) Is there a·"BASIC Language Reference Manual" for SX/B .... I know that the SX-Key has an online manual but I was looking for a book.

3) How about a traditional Programming Book for SX/B without the Assembler.· Something that would have a chapter on Loops, another chapter on Arrays, another on interfacing to an LCD and printing "Hello World".· You get the idea.

4) Mr. Newton, do you see a need for a SX/B section on your SX List?

5) Mr. Gracey, if we (as in, the forum members) create a series of chapters (i.e. just like the above), does this site have the ability to host such chapters and appoint·"chief editors" for each chapter?

Ok, so these are crazy ideas but I don't start teaching classes for a couple of days and my brain cells are starting to power up to full speed with all of these random thoughs about my foolish hobbies (grin).tongue.gif

John - Not a crazy idea at all! I downloaded "Exploring the SX Microcontroller with Assembly & BASIC Programming" only to find that it was more "Assembly" than "BASIC". I would love a book or tutorial that attempts to teach the SX via BASIC and slowly introduces "Assembly".

    1. Good idea but I don't know of one.

    4. Yes. However I have no time to put it together. The SXList.com site IS in fact a wiki. It allows you to A) become a member (register your email address) B) Add a new page from any existing page C) Edit any page you add D) become the editor for any unclaimed page. So YOU or anyone else can add that section, or any other section, to the site. Please do.

    5. Sxlist.com has EXACTLY that ability. Parallax.com does not (to my knowledge)

Doesn't the Bness of SX/B come pretty directly from PBasic.· I have found that my Basic Stamp experience (manuals) have been helpful to using most of·the SX/B constructions.·

I understand this this is not a direct answer to the question posed

Currently, there is no printed (PDF material) for SX/B -- it's all in the online help file.

    Hi John,

Mr. Gracey has arrived. You can call me Ken.

    5. Anything like this you want to organize we can support. I can create sticky threads and of course you can post chapters or other documents in this section.

Our interest and support·for the SX is increasing, as you'll see in the next couple of days.·We've always been a bit loathe to recommend the SX for education, primarily because the cost of the development tools and lack of a compiler. But both of those factors changed recently with the release of SX/B and reduction of our tool kit prices. SX/B is clearly the backbone of·my reasoning, because it's quite possible to go from Stamp-land to SX and use the SX48/52 Proto Boards for really cheap [by the way, we won't be raising the price of those, ever - in fact I wish we could make them $5!].

If you are·going to develop any educational resources for SX/B you have our entire support. Let us know how we can assist.

At the moment we don't have any Parallax-planned documentation on tap for SX/B, but that·will likely change by the end of this year.

And let me add that if anyone has a cool project that you think is worth including the the Projects section of the online help file, send it my way and if possible I will put it in and you'll get famous. Okay, not famous, but you will get credit for your contribution.
