Are Basic Stamp in SS format better than Basic Stamps in DIP format ?

Hi,
I need to install one Basic Stamp in a proyect.
There is no problem about space or something like
that, in fact for me, it is the same to install
the standard BS2-IC or the OEM module
but only my instint tell me that SS Stamps
(i.e. BS2-IC) are more confiable than DIP Basic Stamps.
For example Parallax, (about one year ago) made the Basic D
in DIP an now is SS.
And the last Stamps ( P24, P40, PE, PX) are SS
and not DIP.
My instint tell me that problems like the resonator distance
to the chip interpreter is shorter in SS formats than DIP format.
And (perhaps) could be other reasons that I don't know because
I am not an expert.
Perhaps, you know, ( better than me) if there
are other reasons.

·· Sometimes size does matter.· So the Stamp Modules need to fit into a 24 pin format.· Okay, since the DIP version of the interpreter is already a 24-pin DIP, that won't work.· Now we don't have room for the EEPROM, Resonator, Regulator, RS232 components, etc.· SS parts are used to save space.· If you look at the OEM Modules, they use all through hole·parts.· Neither is really that much better than the other.

They all test to the same specifications for temperature, power consumption, and operational characteristics regardless of package. Only the size is different, as Chris noted. As for longevity, I just visited the Chicago Field Museum where they have a Revision D BASIC Stamp which has been operating a pushbutton/light sequence for over 10 years continuously. And it's a through-hole module.
