howdy - I was interested in learning how to use USB for HID (Human interface device) controlled things. (i.e. making joysticks and the like)· - are there any usb chipsets out there that are easy or somewhat documented for this task?· I have a couple ideas on some basic stamp assisted joystick thingies and was wondering if I am in new grounds on this one. :-)

You can save yourself a bunch of trouble by purchasing our USB2SER to start with. It provides the connections you need for bi-directional comms with a USB port and when you get the project working, you can incorporate that circuit into your device (schematic is included in docs and we carry the FTDI USB chip).

Thanks Jon for the info. Sounds very promising! Do you know if you guys support HID - or know how to have the device be acknowledged as a joystick type of thing? USB side of things for design is very new to me so I am just hashing out what it is I am trying to do - but it should be fun to figure this all out. smile.gif

Those things I do not know; you may need to do an internet search for protocol details of such devices. I'm guessing you'd like to plug in your program and have Windows automatically identify it as a joystick, right?

yeah - that's the ticket. Basically as far as I understand it - that would be the simplist way for MS to know it's a joystick/keyboard/mouse/whatever.
