Wireless communication with PDA?

What is the best wireless way to communicate between a PDA and a Javelin.· I was thinking maybe the Parallax·IR buddy, since my iPaq has IR capability.· It also has bluetooth and wifi, but they seem like extreme overkill.· I just want to send·digits and a few simple·key presses, not unlike from a TV remote.··Any comments?

    Is your PDA able to Emulate a Sony Remote control(or the Sony Protocal)?
    Because if it is it would be easy to have the Javelin decode the Sony Protocal with just an ir receiver.

    I am certain that it is because there is software for it that will let you train it to emulate any remote.· But I have not yet figured out how to do it from my own program, something that I am researching.· Of course, I need to figure that out for any communication I do with the IR port.· I am hoping and expecting that I will find· someone somewhere who will be able to tell me how or point me to the right library.· So, yes, I think I can make it emulate the Sony remote.· And if so, what do I need to do on the Javelin end?·

    I have written a class that will let the Javelin receive codes from a Sony Remote. It is available HERE
    I used this in conjunction with the Parallax Infared Receiver www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=350-00014
    A schematic that shows how to connect the IR Receiver to the Javelin is available HERE


    My class should be easy enough to understand, but if you do have any questions, just ask.
    Also, you can visit the website of my Quadly Bot (www.kettering.edu/~kein0105/robotics.html), it has an example of how I used a Sony Remote to control it.

    Very cool, Jon! Just what the doctor ordered. Now I have to get busy and figure out how to program my iPAQ to use the IR transmitter. Thanks!
