Does Parallax have a USB to Serial chip that will work with the SX28 without having to use a Max232 chip?

Thanks,
Kevin

Our USB2SER adapter works -- I've used it a couple times with the SX: http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=28024

The documentation includes a schematic in case you want to build your own.

    Jon,

Does·Parallax have a·schematic that i can use so i can implement it into my circuit board design without having to purchase the USB2Ser board?

    Thanks,

As Jon said the documantation has a schematic so you can integrate into your design.

That is the document you want, it has the parts list and the schematic.

Is there a better schematic than that or can you explain what is going on here with the broken schematic type view? I guess i just haven't seen them this way!

    Sorry!

What would make it "better"? -- all the parts and connections are very clear. Putting lines between clearly-marked circuit nodes will not magically improve your understanding.

    Jon,
You have to remember that this is a different aspect of electronics me, I am a Biomedical Engineer not a Electronics Engineer(circuit designer). Look at this from a teacher and student aspect. The student doesn't know without the teacher teaching him in the best way she knows how. It's easy for the teacher because she knows the information as for the student he relies on the teacher to get information across so he can understand it. Most of you guys here on the forum work with this stuff alot so it's very understandable to you but what about the people that's new to this aspect of electronics! I have never seen that many broken schematics, a schematic to me shows a connections to all components!

Also what is the forum for if you can't help·each other and learn!

    Kevin,

actually, I've been a teacher for electronics many years. I have made the experience during this time, that it is a lot easier for students understanding an electronic system, when you brake it down into smaller, manageable functional blocks instead of looking at the whole system at once. Keeping this in mind, the way Parallay uses to draw their schematics makes a lot sense. Besides this, modern CAD software used to draw schematics today, also leads to this style of representation.

    Kevin,

I'm coming in very late on this but...

If you find the schematic hard to read, then just add the lines yourself. Anywhere you see a label, look to see if there is a matching label(s) anywhere else. If you find one (or more), then just draw a line between them. That's all there is to it.
      Thanks, PeterM

But the result might look like Spaghetti then.

When I was going through tech school in the Air Force I had a giant pack of fine-tipped markers to color my schematics so that I could keep track of the lines.

    Jon,

as a matter of fact, I mentioned before that I've been a teacher for electronics for many years. Guess where - at the German Air Force!
