Help with IR kit

I think I just wasted some money at RadioShack, but maybe somebody can bail me out. I just purchased the Infrared emitter and detector kit (276-142), the problem is I can not figure out how to use it. What I want to do is, on my BS2 breadboard setup, set up the detector so it can read the 3 function remote control (Universal Remote). The part that is confusing me is the detector has two legs (Parallax equiv has three), which one gets the·power and which one goes to a pin. In other words how would I get this to work with the BS2.
Next time I will have to stick with Parallax parts.

Thanks

That detector does not have the demodulator circuitry that you're looking for.· You need this:

... or you can buy from us:

    Thanks Jon,

Sometimes I get a bug up my·..., and I can't wait the seven days for my order to get here. I usually try to order the parts from Parallax.

Side bar: I am still trying to figure out how I will implement this, Universal Remote/IR detector on my SX52 proto board, using SX/B of course.

The nice thing about the demodulated receivers is that the output goes low for a bit and high (pulled-up internally) for a space. You can use PULSIN to time the bits in the stream (start with the Sony protocol, it's the easiest to decode). The trick will be single-byte variables. I'm a bit swamped this week and next, but when I get back from the Midwest Haunters Convention (going as part of Team EFX) I'll work on adding an IR project to the Projects section of the SX/B help file.

This article may help with the SIRCS protocol: http://www.parallax.com/dl/docs/cols/nv/vol3/col/nv76.pdf
