hi, i'm wondering how much potential and current a basic stamp pin can handle without causing it to short circuit..

Yup, input of 5.5 to 15 volts on Vin -- the limiting factor here is the power dissapation of the linear regulator.
Current I'm not so sure about -- it's low, though (less than 10 mA just for the BS2). The BS2 is good for battery powered applications.
I suppose if you put 30 volts DC on Vin, you'd burn some stuff up.
