Linux serial connection fails

I set up a BASIC stamp HomeWork Board.
I downloaded and compiled the sourceforge project code
I successfully tokenized the "hello.bs2" program
I did
cd /dev
ln -s ttyS0 bstamp
when I run bstamp_run hello.tok (the output of the tokenizer)
I see the system attempt to connect. However it turns off the
LED on the board as though it had done a reset.
I've looked around and I think the problem is related to the
DTR line. I remember seeing something about this but I've
checked the docs, the forums and the download for this
information.
If you have a clue please email me at
daly@axiom-developer.org
Many thanks,
