Using a keypad and an LCD display

Hello,
· I am trying to find a keypad/LCD combination for use in a project with the BS2.· I need at least 8 keys, and an LCD of 16x2 or greater.· Ideally, the unit would have a serial/TTL output so that I could read the input of the system with only a few pins of the BS2.· Also, the key illustrations must be customizeable.· Has anyone run across such a device?

I have built up such a circuit to control a stepper motor.· The 3x4 keypad is wired to a 16F628 which detects whick key has been pressed, then serouts the number to my BS2.· The BS2 receives the number, takes appropriate action depending on the number, and displays all info on a 4x20 LCD.· The LCD fills in completely for the debug screen, displaying the menu, prompting for input from the keypad.· When the program asks for degrees of rotation, I press 5 numbers on the keypad, i.e., 0-0-3-6-0, the Stamp receives these 5 numbers and produces a single number, 360, which is stepped out to the stepper.· Once the Stamp is programmed, I can disconnect it from the PC and run the program with the LCD acting as the debug screen.

·· There are several LCD Displays available on our website under accessories.· There are a few with keypad decoders, but there are also plenty of KeyPad Decoder chips available that can output serial data.· As for customizable keypad definitions, B.G. Micro sells keypads with customizable legends.

You can also try the LK162-12, which is a 2x16 line serial interface display, with up to 12 key input. There are three different communication protocols on that unit. TTL, RS-232, and I2C.
