Hi

I see two boards on the Parallax site to do compass operations:

1. Compass Appmod http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=29113
2. Hitach HM55B Compass Module http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=29123

How do both of these differ and for what applications are they recommended??

Right now I am looking forward to finding out how much my robot has moved in each direction say in 2 minutes of its motion!!!

·Can anyone guide me on the adv. and disadv. of using these two boards?

Thanks

    Varun,

The new Hitachi HM55B obsoloetes the Parallax Compass AppMod. The Parallax version provides eight directions, while the Hitachi version can provide 64-128 directions depending on how it is interfaced to a microcontroller. And it's less than half the price. Both have a serial interface (synch for Parallax; asynch for Hitachi). The size of the Hitachi module is less than 1/10th the size of an AppMod.

Once we're out of stock of our Compass AppMod it will be discontinued. Get the Hitachi version. There's a really cool graphical viewer for the output, too, plus our educational documentation (none of that for the Parallax version). . . . sheesh. . I'd doing a great job selling our stuff!
