problems with detecting the basic stamp(BS2p)

My computer was unable to detect my basic stamp even after following the troubleshooting steps in the maunal. at the identification window, port status, under the device type column it doesn't show anything. Is there anyway for the computer to detect·the stamp?

    What type of developement board are you using?

    Hi, I'm using the RS-232 cable to connect to the PC and BS2p.
    The OS I'm using is MS XP.

    Do you have a proper power supply? The editor is seeing the port (loop back) and the signal is apparently being routed through the Stamp (echo) -- what the editor is waiting for is the Stamp to respond. If the power is bad or something is holding it in reset, this could cause the Stamp to be mute.

    Yup, in fact I'm using an adapter to power it. The adapter can switch between several voltages. From the manual the idea voltages are from 6.5volts to 9 volts.

    What platform are you using? One of our boards (like the BOE or PDB)? If no, where is your power going (Vin on the chip, I hope, and not to Vdd). Also, if you have a scope you should examine the reset; it should be high (+5 VDC); if not that is the problem (Stamp is in reset and not able to respond). Make sure that you disconnect any loads from your BASIC Stamp until you get the communications sorted out.

    Well actually i think my board was modified. Thus my teacher gave us a new board to work on which actually worked. cool.gif
