failing sensors

I've gone through multiple Devantech SRF04 range finders and Memsic 2125 accelerometers. For some reason, they just stop working. I leave them in my basement for a few months, and when I need them again, they don't work half the time. It's extremely frustrating. Anyone experienced this?

If you have a really damp basement...you could get fungus/mold growing on the leads....

Sensors can be particularly suceptibly to moisture because most have parts exposed to the air. Condensation can damage elements and other things mentioned above. The accelerometer while not having an exposed element, if the packaging is not air tight, moisture can enter and cause the moving elements inside to stick.
