SERIN(16) Breaking my Programming Connection

Sweet jesus. I locked myself out of my chip! I copied & pasted someone's code from this board, and now, whenever I try to program the chip, the program on it thinks I'm trying to communicate serially with it! I get a "Hardware Communication Failure" error. I've tried programming someone else's chip and it worked fine, so I'm sure mine is messed up somehow.
I followed the instructions on the knowledge base for using the same connection for programming and communication - I've interrupted DTR to ATN with a .1 uF capacitor, and I put a .1 uF capacitor between ATN and VSS. I still get the same error!
Help! Thanks!
