XGS: Cannot communicate with device

I am trying to connect the XGS IDE with the board but I get the error: Cannot communicate with device.
I have checked that I/O addresses are right. The board is plugged, using the provided parallel cable, and it is powered on.
I am using the PAL samples.

The board does work wit the Pacman sample that comes pre-recorded.

Anyone has had the same problem ?

Thanks.
Inaki.

    Inaki,

·· You might want to check your LPT port settings.· On most motherboards there are several options for the mode of the port.· Also, does it communicate through the SX-Key interface?

The pac-man pre-recorded game is for NTSC.

Bean, well, my TV is PAL and the pre-recorded PacMan game does work, in full color! I have changed the crystal on the board to PAL. Other than this I have not changed anything !
What should happen if I use a PAL TV with PAL crystal on the XGS but the game is coded for NTSC ?

I have solved the parallel problem changing Bios Setup to EPP port mode. Thanks Chris for the comment.

I have checked also the SX-Key plugged on COM1. The "Programming..." windows shows and keeps forever on the display. The progress bar runs up to 100% but then it hangs there.
The window refuses to be closed even when I click the close button. Is there anything to set ? For example, I could not find a place to select COM speed. Note that programming does work, that is to say, the program RUNs fine once programming reaches 100%.

Also I have noticed programming with SX-Key is much slower that using the parallel cable. Is there any way to speed up things and prevent programming hanging up ?

    Thanks.

    Inaki,

you should download the latest version of the SX-Key software from www.parallax.com/dl/sw/sx/SX-KeyEditor3_1.exe which fixes the problem with the lock-ups.

I also have the XGS. On my computer, my parallel port is not mapped to the standard 378 but 278. So, I told the xgs compiler to use that correct addres.

It works fine BUT, the first time I try to compile, I have to go to the tools and click APPLY.

    Then, it will work.

    I think it's a strange bug.
