Getting AC from batteries...

I have recently started looking at el Wire for a few easy projects..and according to their specs they require an AC source to light...

Now when you order from them they do offer an AC inverter that can run off of batteries. Can anyone explain to me what is most likely in that 'inverter' that gives the AC output from a battery (or other DC) source? What would be the cheapest way to copy something like that? Smallest? Easiest?

From a FAQ about el wire:
Q. How do changes in input affect the brightness?

A. Voltage: The brightness increases when the voltage is increased. The range of voltage that electroluminescent wires operate at is 50-130VAC (RMS).

Frequency: When the frequency is increased, the brightness increases. The range of frequencies that electroluminescent wires operate at is virtually unlimited. Common use of the wire is at 50-5000Hz.

I know how to get DC, but never have gone the other way...ultimately I'd like the ability to turn on/off and change brightness controlled by a BS2 (or SX)- suggestions on how to go about this would be greatly appreciated. (Or even just a point in the right direction of where to read, I'm off to Google after posting this, but you guys always seem to do a great job of explaining things)-

Thanks,

Ryan

It's been a while since I've seen an "Astable Vibrator"

I think I remember the name correctly, right?

Yeah, I found something similar while googling~

Are there any 'tricks' or clever ways of doing this (the original intent of my post was to hopefully pull off the knowledge of experience of the group here, beyond what I was going to find on Goolge myself)-

    Thanks!
