New USB BoeBot kit - Windows XP cannot see it

I have a new USB BoeBot and cannot get started with even the most beginning steps
because my XP systems (both my Dell laptop and my Dell tower) don't see it when
it is plugged into a USB port.

I successfully use a USB keyboard and wireless mouse through the USB ports.

I have downloaded Editor version 2.2 and it acts the same as 2.1 - an Identify shows
just an empty entry for COM1.

If I open the XP Device Manager nothing changes when I plug the Boe into a USB port.
(If I plug or unplug the USB keyboard or mouse the Device Manager display clears and
refreshes showing that the system saw the devices being added or removed.)

I have checked that the BS2 chip is well seated and that no pins were bent under when
I inserted it. Its direction in the socket matches the line drawing underneath it.

The power switch is set to position 1 and the green light on the board is on.

Help! What am I missing?

Appreciate it, thanks!

    Walt,

·· If when you plug the device in/unplug it, nothing changes in your device manager, then the computer is not sensing the device.· Please call Technical Support between 7A and 5P Pacific Time and have your setup ready to test.· We can be reached at 1-888-997-8267.

Thanks, I will do that.· After a visual inspection, I suspect one possibility
is that the USB connector on the Boe board might be defective.· The pins
in there don't all seem to be nice and straight and lined up in position.

So perhaps the computer isn't getting the correct electrical indication that
    the device has been attached.

Thanks, I'll call when I have it set up near a phone.

    I appreciate it,
    Walt
