Socket Spec

Hi,

I need a part number for a 24 pin socket to fit the BS2IC.· The ones I bought from Digikey don't work. The pins don't fit.· My search for "socket" on the Parallax site came up dry.· I'm late on this project and now I need them mucho pronto.

My board is one-sided so I would like to find something where the plastic doesn't sit down on the board.· But I can work around it if necessary.

Thanks for your help.

Chris Isaacson

    Hello,

    ·· The socket is a standard 24 pin DIP socket.· .6" wide.

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for the reply.· My part number form Digikey is ED5624-ND - 24 pin DIP socket, .6 wide.· The pins line up nicely.· They just don't fit into the holes.· I found the part by doing a search on the Digikey site.· There was no filter for pin diameter.·

What I received is not like the socket that is on my BOE.· The BOE socket has spring loaded·receptacles for the pins.· The socket I received has hollow pins.

    StarMan,

·· It looks like a machine socket...I don't know why your pins don't fit, but you can always go to a·Radio Shack store and see if they still have any standard 24 pin sockets around.· On the website they only show the 24 pin machined wire-wrap sockets, but I used to buy them from Radio Shack when I needed one in a hurry.

    Thanks Chris,

The local RS here in Encinitas, CA has a very limited supply of electronics parts.· They didn't have one.· Although they could certainly help me if I needed a new cell phone.

I ordered a few from Jameco.· They look like the right ones.· And they only cost $0.16 each....plus $14.49 shipping (2 day FedEx).

    Chris,

·· Let me know if they worked.· I tend to shop at Jameco because I can usually see what I am getting.
