Have you tried Lumex at www.lumex.com?· I know that they have a list of distributors that sell LEDs.

You will be somewhat hard pressed to find such intense LED's, Digikey has a total of 2 types (9000 and 11000 mcd) parts 441-1001-ND
·and 441-1009-ND. Both are $106.60 for a lot of 100. It is much harder to determine what stock other electronics distributors carry because they do not provide parametric searches of thier inventory like digikey does.

One possible route is to get the "LED on steroids" modules like the 1 watt modules on the lower half of this page, or the Luxeon·modules. I have two Luxeon Star Side-Emitting modules and they are literally blindingly bright. These modules require constant current source drivers to get the most efficiency out of them and they are pretty pricey.

Here is an LED described as "Blindingly bright" availible for $0.42 apeice in quantities of 100 or more, but no luminous rating is provided.

    At SuperBrightLEDS.com,
the RL5-W18030 is a white LED at 18000 mcd. Cost for 100 count is $119.00.
I have dealt with these folks and have been happy with them. They're located
in St Louis, MO so middle of the country, pret' near. You didn't say what color
but they have plenty of colors and styles to choose from. Oh, the 18030's are 5-mm.

I can vouch for www.superbrightleds.com·as well.· I have·used leds and led modules from·them for both work and home projects several times and have been very satisfied every time.· Order turn-around time and product quality have been great.

I buy mine from Best Hong Kong. He's the same guy from eBay

Express shipping ($20.00 extra) takes 2 days (to Pacific Coast). Otherwise it takes 1 to 2 weeks.

I've purchased several thousand LED's from him but I have to warn you that he can screw up your order. For instance, one time I ordered 300 LED's and he only sent 100. Never did get that resolved. He seems to be better if you order direct rather than through eBay.

If you need a lot of LED's, he seems to be the only choice (unless you don't mind paying exorbitant prices).

Cool· Thanks.· I wanted the ones from ebay but I like ordering direct like that.·
The super brite lights listed in the links above are awesome too.· Radiohead uses a similar light setup.· I can only imagine what they paid for their light show.· Those light bars nearly blinded me.

Anyone know if there is a standard for HotShoe connections on digital of film cameras?

I have placed numerous orders for hundreds of LEDs from Best Hong Kong through e-bay and I have not been disappointed....yet.··· After shipping it works out to about $0.40 per LED.· Uniformity and brightness on all orders have been very good.

    Try these two:

    www.marktechopto.com/
    www.nichia.com/

I've dealt with both. Their LEDs and service are both top-notch.
You might also check out the KingBright line that Mouser sells. Their P4 high-flux LEDs may fit the bill for you.

And finally, anybody who wants to know anything about LEDs dares not pass up the LED Museum:

    ledmuseum.home.att.net/ledleft.htm

This is a real treasure trove of LED info, including tests and reviews. A MUST!

    Good luck!
