I have a basic stamp 2

what type of relay do i need to power a 12 vdc 1 amp solenoid valve from a I/O pin?

Actually you dont need a relay, you can use a mosfet like the IRF710. <-link to spec sheet here. Many other types of·mosfets will work just as well.·Just connect the gate to the stamp pin, the source to ground and the drain to the ground side of your solenoid. Also place a 10K Ohm resistor between the gate and drain.
