·· Most problems with serial ports are related to Laptops/Notebooks.· It's usually the FIFO Buffers or the Latency settings that cause the most problems.· Of course Palm Pilots (HotSync) programs also cause some trouble.

i am having a windows xp sp2 on my dell D610 laptop, and i have to run 3 serial communications programs.
i have to run a program called dcm manager (www.qscaudio.com dcm3) that we use to program audio xovers. When i run that program on my laptop on com1 or usb-rs232 com 3 or with a pcmia serial card (2 serial ports com2 and com4) i always ,after it has downloaded the data to the xover , get an error 'error downloading data to dcm". that result in not saving data into the xover.
I tried it on a laptop xp with no SP2, everything works fine.
i can't find out where i have to remove the sp2 on xp.
i asked the IT departement, they don't know what is wrong!!!???
·· Did you even try what I mentioned above?· In your device manager, open the properties for the Serial ports, and make sure that the FIFO buffers are dsiabled and/or the Latency Timer is set to 1, instead of a higher number.· You shouldn't need to remove SP2 as that will open your computer to security problems.

Simply changing the FIFO buffer values may not be enough.· They should be disabled completely by unchecking the box, "Use FIFO Buffers."· You may also need to restart your computer for these settings to take effect.· Also, if you have a latency setting, was it lowered to 1 (Usually it's at 16 by default).
