What robot? How are you connecting (serial or USB)? If using USB, are you using one of our USB-based boards or a USB adapter? If you're using a USB adapter, it's an FTDI adapter, right? -- USB adapters from other vendors probably won't work; the only one we know to work is made by FTDI.

The devil is in the details ... if you want detail help you need to give a better explanation of the problem you're having.

Do you have fresh batteries in the robot? Is it powered up? Do you have a piece of software that is holding your serial port hostage (e.g. HotSync program)?

Do you have PDA (Palm Pilot of Win CE device)? If yes, disable its connection software.

If this serial robot is a serial Boe-Bot, the book that comes with it should be Robotics with the Boe-Bot v2.2. If you do indeed have a Boe-Bot and this book, check page 17 to make sure the BASIC Stamp Module is right-side-up in the socket. It should also be well seated in the sockete.

If the Run -> Identify test on page 22 fails, the last checkmark instruction on the page directs you to Appendix A: PC to BASIC Stamp Communication Trouble-Shooting. There are suggestions in there to get you through most of the common probblems.

Robotics with the Boe-Bot is available for free download from www.parallax.com -> Downloads -> Stamps in Class Tutorials.
