BS2P40 Detection

My new BS2p40 won't be detected by computer running the BSEditor 2.1 beta 1.· I even had my electronics teacher check my wiring of the cable between my computer and the stamp.· The loopback and echo both·say yes but there is no device type or version.· I assume some of it must be working to get both the loopback and echo to respond.

Thanks,
Kirk W. Fraser

The echo means that a byte sent by the editor was echoed back from the BASIC Stamp hardware, the loopback is a physical connection on the DB-9 (used to look for a possible Stamp). Is your Stamp powered up properly? Is it being held in reset?

    Hello,
··········· If you have access to a voltmeter what do you get on the following pins of the stamp with reference to ground (Pin·39 -VSS)?
    Pin·40 -VIN
    Pin·38 - RST
    Pin·37 – VDD
    Pin 1 – SOUT
    Pin 2 – SIN
    Pin 3 – ATN

    Jon,

I believe the Stamp is powered properly with 12vdc.

The reset pin has nothing external connected to it.

    Stephen,

    Pin 40 -VIN 12.24

    Pin 38 - RST 9.00

    Pin 37 – VDD 9.00

    Pin 1 – SOUT 9.93

    Pin 2 – SIN 13.29

    Pin 3 – ATN 7.05

    Thanks,
    Kirk

    Hello,
·Ok, this is the·problem you seem to have 9vdc on VDD which could damage the stamp. You will want to see what is providing this 9vdc to the VDD or RST. This will need to be removed before inserting the stamp.

    Stephen,

The problem was my ground was open -- my proto board needs a jumper half-way down the ground line.

Now the Stamp identifies itself in my computer correctly.

Thanks for your patience and assistance.
